1981 Corvette Parts
The 1981 Corvette was the first model to be built in two separate locations. The first 1981 Corvette was built at the new Bowling Green, Kentucky, and the last one was finished being built in St. Louis.Although there weren’t varying engine options to choose from in 1981, the base 350ci engine was certified for sale in all states, including California, with both 4-speed manual and automatic transmissions.
1981 was the first year that Chevrolet introduced a fiberglass-reinforced monoleaf rear spring. It was equipped with automatic transmissions and standard suspensions. The plastic spring weighed eight pounds compared to the 44-pound steel unit it replaced.
